Realignment Blog/Dreams Matter/How the Night Reveals What the Day Can’t

Have you ever woken up in shock—sweating, heart racing, completely invaded by fear? Only to calm yourself down with the thought, "It was just a dream."

But what if it wasn’t just a dream? What if it was something more?

For the past 10 years, I’ve paid close attention to every dream I’ve had. Each morning, I’d journal what I could remember. Over time, something incredible happened: I began to realize that my dream life was influencing my waking life. And not just mine—my entire family’s.

To be honest, I didn’t always care about dreams. In fact, I used to barely remember them. The only ones that stuck with me were the nightmares I wished I could forget.
Everything changed one day when my younger sister asked me to interpret a dream our older sister had. I gave it a try—and failed miserably. She burst into laughter at my attempt. Then she gave her own interpretation, and it was spot on. I was stunned.

That night, I did something bold. I asked God to give me a dream. He did. It was unlike any dream I’d had before. I knew He was speaking to me, even if I didn’t yet understand what He was saying.

From that moment on, I was hooked.
I began asking everyone—my husband, my kids, my friends, even my neighbors—“Did you have a dream last night?” Dreams became part of our daily conversation. Not in a mystical or fortune-telling way, but as a tool for insight, growth, and connection with God.

One night, my husband dreamed he was in a helicopter, flying high to see what he had built. But the helicopter hit a building and crashed. He wasn’t hurt, but he woke up shaken.
A few days later, we realized the message. We had neglected our financial administration. If we kept going that way, we would crash. The dream was a warning, and it helped us course-correct just in time.

Too often, we shrug off dreams. We roll out of bed, check our phones, and forget the night as if it held no value. But Scripture tells a different story. The Bible is filled with dreams. From Joseph to Daniel, from the Magi to Mary’s husband Joseph—God used dreams to warn, guide, and reveal truth.
Could He still be doing that today? I believe so.

A few years ago, a friend of mine was struggling. I encouraged her to pay attention to her dreams. One day, she shared one with me:
"I was in a dark house, looking for the light switch."

Simple. Short. Yet deeply profound.

I asked her, “Do you feel lost right now?”

“Yes,” she replied, surprised. “How did you know?”

"God is inviting you to turn on the light in your life. The Bible says Jesus is the Light. This dream is a personal invitation for you to let Him in. Do you want to accept Him?"

Right there in my kitchen, we prayed together. A dream led her to Jesus.

Think about it: by the age of 60, you’ll have slept for 20 years. Why wouldn’t God speak during those years? The Bible says in Joel 2:28 that in the last days, people will dream dreams.
For me, one verse shifted my whole perspective on dreams:
"For God does speak—now one way, now another— though no one perceives it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword." (Job 33:14–18)

God loves us so deeply that He speaks in the quietest moments—when we’re finally still enough to hear.

I want to challenge you:

for the next 12 days, write down your dreams.

Be intentional. Ask God to speak. Pay attention.
You might be surprised by what He’s been trying to tell you all along.

Remember, dreams matter.
